General Job Description

PKF Texas is actively seeking an Audit Senior Associate. This position reports directly to our Audit Managers, Senior Managers and Directors and works collaboratively with the members of our expanding audit team.

Those at the Senior Associate level are newly in a position of advanced technical aptitude and supervisory responsibilities. A Senior Associate must be able to handle more complex assignments than the Associate, begin to learn the complete process of managing all tasks regarding client work and take a lead role in developing/reviewing the work of less experienced staff. The Senior Associate role is the bridge between the staff, who are executing the client service-related tasks, and the management, who are strategizing and overseeing successful completion of efficient engagement activity and top quality client service. The Senior Associate needs to be the liaison to management, and therefore needs to develop a broader scope of the business into a supervisory role. During this time, the Senior Associate is expected to develop confidence with his/her role, to become fully acclimated to a supervisory position, where he/she may be in charge of the day-to-day activity on multiple engagements and/or supervising multiple team members. The Senior Associate increasingly needs to be able to perform the most complex technical tasks of the engagement and work more and more with less supervision. Finally, to adequately prepare for Manager responsibilities, the Senior Associate needs to explore opportunities amongst various industries over time and then narrow down their industry focus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all technical aspects of the job, including related knowledge of necessary systems and procedures.
  • Handles more complex tasks and projects within discipline/function.
  • Reviews work of less experienced staff and shares knowledge to develop staff technical skills.
  • Recognizes complex technical issues, evaluates facts efficiently, and uses strategic decision-making skills to assist management in solving problems.
  • Demonstrates savvy and understanding of interrelationship with other departments.
  • Demonstrates advanced technical knowledge effectively through written and verbal communication; seeks to continuously develop communication skills.
  • Follow regulations and professional ethics of state bodies appropriate to discipline, including AICPA.
  • Keep current on all professional pronouncements.
  • Proficient in use of all technology necessary to performance execution.
  • Requests assistance from engagement management after spending appropriate amount of time on any given problem or issue.
  • Ensures top quality client service and oversees client service performance of staff.
  • Assists management in planning and managing engagement activity and follows through to achieve results.
  • Recognizes needs and issues pertinent to client activity and demonstrates ownership of engagement’s day-to-day tasks and activities.
  • Is conscious of and works to achieve personal and departmental goals as determined by Practice Leader.
  • Appropriately manages risk and ensures quality control procedures are being executed.
  • Coordinates various phases of engagement with Management.
  • Builds client relationships and maintains smooth working relationship.
  • Responds timely and accurately to internal team and client requests.
  • Works effectively within given budgetary parameters; assists associates in prioritizing and managing their workload. Approaches projects with a sense of urgency and is completion oriented.
  • Seeks new ideas and better ways of accomplishing job and company goals.
  • Is proactive in seeking opportunities to achieve target chargeability (determined by Practice Leaders).
  • Understands that time may be spent in both the Firm’s offices and/or the client’s premises. Additionally, client service activity may not always be predictable, and may be subject to immediate change or on-call requests with very short notice. Travel may be frequent and unpredictable, depending on client’s needs, and may include domestic and/or international travel.
  • Ability to reason and effectively multi-task. Strong communication skills with the ability to apply understanding to carry out and to give instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize work and projects, prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to complete work in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for leading a team of staff level positions and ensure proper execution of assignments.
  • Provide staff with leadership, counseling and career guidance.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, recruiting, retention and team-building activities.
  • Present internal and external training and seminars on technical issues.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 3-5 years of relevant experience and actively working toward passing the CPA Exam; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Public accounting or other professional services experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards. Familiarity with audit procedures and the ability to distinguish between material and immaterial items.
  • Must maintain required CPE credits annually.
  • Ability to effectively use Prosystem Fx Engagement and Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to operate office equipment (fax machine, telephone skills, calculator, copier, etc.).
  • Ability to organize work and projects, prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to complete work in an efficient and accurate manner. The volume of work during busy seasons is typically higher than at other times of the year.
  • Ability to reason and effectively multi-task. Strong communication skills with the ability to apply understanding to carry out and to give instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
