Houston an Energy City

The moratorium on deepwater drilling has officially been lifted.  This is great news for Houston and the rest of the Gulf Coast.  I’m interested to see what the economic impact of the moratorium has been on Houston.

This morning, I was at the Greater Houston Partnership’s Energy Future Conference this morning and heard from Doug Foshee, the Chairman and CEO of El Paso Corp.  In his remarks, he emphasized that the future of energy is critical to our nation’s future.  He also said that we should be focusing on supply security because we are interdependent on energy.  The answer isn’t going to come from just on source.

With the 10th anniversary of FastTech 50 rapidly approaching, I can’t help but think of how many energy related companies have made the list over the years and the impact they’ve had on both Houston’s and the global economy.  Houston is an energy city and we will be the driver of change for the next generation.
