As entrepreneurs and executives, we’ve begun working like computers. We pride ourselves on the ability to work long hours without breaks, and list multitasking as a required skill.

We try to do it all, when realistically the work is never finished. A well-balanced team, using skills where they lie, maximizes the productivity of each person.

Understanding that our energy must be renewed is key. New research shows the benefits of sleep are more critical to human function than even food.

Tony Schwartz, President and CEO of The Energy Project, has written several books on the topic and offers several tips for managing your energy.  He suggests conducting an energy audit to identify what drains you and what you need to focus on to “recharge.”  His website, www.TheEnergyProject.com is a good source of information.

If we don’t take the time to give our minds and bodies a rest, we will eventually reach burn out. By managing your energy, you will be more efficient, think more critically and accomplish more than if you kept going like the Energizer bunny.
