Emily: Absolutely. Thanks for having me.
Jen: Yeah. So, when a student is evaluating their options, I know a question you get asked all the time, “How do I stand out? How do I make a firm notice me? What can I do?” So, what advice do you give to those students?
Recruiting Tip 1: Your Résumé
Emily: Obviously a couple very basic type advice would be to make sure your résumé doesn’t have any errors in it.
Jen: That’s always a good one.
Emily: Right? Have kind of a basic résumé. You don’t need to add color or anything like that. Just very basic is fine. Less is more in that situation.
Recruiting Tip 2: Shine Bright
But mainly be yourself, you know? Come to the different events that firms hold or your school holds. Make sure that you attend those events. Come say hi if you see me or any of the other advisors out there. Make yourself known.
And then if you’re any sort of organizations or you do any special projects related to accounting or anything like that, go ahead and put that on your résumé too. That’s going to help for sure make you stand out.

Recruiting Tip 3: Research the Website
Jen: Should they be doing research? Should they demonstrate that they have been on our website? What type of advice do you give in that aspect?
Emily: Yeah, for sure. Our website is fully available. It has all of our team members on there, has our story, everything like that that you can check out, and it shows that you’re really interested in us and we’ll just kind of be like, “Oh wow, okay! You really know your stuff.” So that always is helpful.
