I’m Jen Lemanski and I’m here with Emily Marsh, our Talent Acquisition Specialist here at PKF Texas. Emily, welcome back. Glad we’ve got you to talk about more recruiting topics.
Emily: Absolutely. Thanks for having me.
Jen: So, an important part of every firm and when you’re making a decision about where you want to go to work and spend a lot of your time is culture, and one way to build culture within a firm is team building activities, firm events, that kind of thing. So, what types of things do we do at PKF Texas for our employees?
Coming Together and Team Building
Emily: Yeah, so our firm events that we have are going to be our happy hours. Typically, we do them after deadline. We know you worked hard, so we want to reward you for that – blow off a little steam. We do them onsite, as well as offsite at different locations.
We do also offer volleyball or yoga events that we’ve had in the past. We do have soccer and softball leagues. We do summer events; sometimes we’ve had them at Dave & Buster’s or Main Event or bowling. Just some different activities so we can get kind of out of the office.
Jen: Some of that team-building type of stuff.
Emily: Yeah, exactly. We have the annual holiday party, a Go Texan day – we’re bringing that back again.
Interns Have Fun Too
And then we also have different events for our interns specifically. We want them to kind of know our team a little bit more as well. So, we take them out to the Escape Room or Top Golf. This year we’re bringing back the rodeo event, so we get to take everybody to go see a concert there. So, it should be a lot of fun and a lot of team building and getting to know the firm a little bit better.
Having a Voice at PKF Texas
Jen: Perfect. And so, do we kind of poll our people to see what types of things they’re interested in? Because I think it changes year to year, doesn’t it?
Emily: Yes, it does change year to year. We typically poll our people to make sure, “Hey, is this something you still want to do? Do you want to try somewhere else? What are your opinions on that?” And we do that I think around the Staff Advisory Committee as well. We ask them each year, “Do you guys have any ideas of where you want to do this event?” Or something like that. So, we gather from everybody in the team.
Jen: Well, it’s great that we’re able to let our team members have a little bit of a voice in the process, and we’re not just like throwing spaghetti against the wall and seeing what sticks.
Emily: Right. We want to make sure they’re going to have fun, too, the way want to do it.
Jen: Yeah, exactly. Well, perfect. We’ll get you back to talk a little bit more about what it’s like to be a PKF Texan. Sound good?
